Welcome aboard! Looking forward to working with you.
Likewise, Jack!
Robert! So pleased for you and looking forward to a Bethesda dinner event when you return!
Much love and Merry Christmas! – Louise, Dick and Christina (who’s going to Rome in two weeks)
What a perfect fit.
You’re going to be working with Jack Speer? Now THAT’S cool.
Dear Robert,
I was very pleased when I learned about your getting the NPR job. I’ve always had the idea that NPR doesn’t value the hourlies highly enough, but your experience and efforts should change that. Those newscasts are as responsible as any of the daily programs for maintaining the network’s cumulative audience. May you make it grow. Congratulations and best wishes.
Steve
Thank you, Steve! I appreciate the kind and gracious words. The newscasts are a HUGE part of what makes NPR, NPR. It’s the single most listened-to product at National Public Radio. If it has been the red-headed stepchild (apologies to all red-headed step children)…it will be no longer. And that’s not just me talking. That’s what the folks who hired me strongly believe- or I wouldn’t be going there.
This red headed step child is not offended. I have thick skin, thin hair, but thick skin! 🙂
Well done Robert! You always land on your feet and make a difference in the radio news world. How do you like the job so far?
Best,
Donna
I now have a blog and want to put you on my blogroll, since you are a such good read and I want to introduce you to my friends. .Not sure of the netiquette, but I figured I should ask first. Here it is, if you want to take a gander: http://redaroundtherink.wordpress.com/
Well, I’d be honored! Will check yours out.
It’s done. If you don’t like the description, let me know and I’ll fix it. We aims to please.
Now how could I possibly object to that?
*smiles*
Robert:
I don’t know if you remember me, my name is Mike McCay and we worked together at WAGE in the ’70s. I came across your blog quite by accident but I am glad to have found you. About a month ago (Jan., ’13) I had the opportunity to meet VA Senator Mark Herring from Loudoun County and I mentioned that I had worked there in the ’70’s, he asked me if I knew that Paul Draisey had taken his life. I had not. I was saddened and shocked. As I searched the net for some information on Paul’s passing I came across your memories of him (I was also pleased to see a note from Mary Ball in the comments section.) It was a sad way to have discovered your musings, but I am now enjoying them very much.
Of course I remember you, Mike. In fact…there’s a picture on Facebook somewhere of me sitting on your shoulders with a basketball…a promo pic for our mighty battle against the 4H kids (who we beat!). Please feel free to write me at the gmail account above so we can keep in touch.
