Robert, I sure enjoyed the “Gamping” article. It reminds me of when I lived in Reston and, unbelievably, my folks let me go hiking and camping with three of the boys from school. Yes, I was the girl who walked a mile to pee (facilites not included) so the boys could not see. Yes, it snowed like a bitch the first night, yes the boys went skinny dipping in unlawfully cold waterfalls (in my eyes). However, I learned a lot about survival of the fitess (me); we got lost, they cried, I laughed. I took my huge, over my head, back pack and went for help on my own, 12 miles. I called my daddy and he came to rescue us. Needless to say, I got to ride shotgun in the 1972 Bonneville station wagon and Daddy and I got the hiccups from giggling. The boys were silent…I should write a book, that would only be one funny chapter of adoring life! Gamping. Harumph! Life is still good! How the heck are you, anyhow?
Robert, I really have never read such a heartfelt portrayal which so honestly and accurately pegs what I know about Charlie. Congratulations to you all!
I didn’t remember that you were a big cheese at NPR, my favorite listening indulgence, so congrats to you on your own brilliant career :).
